The Best of Nainital 4.5

Nainital has everything that takes to make a touristy place. The eye-shaped lake (most people consider it is an eye-shaped lake but many say it is in the shape of a bean) is the centre of all the activities in the city and it is not a surprise that there is a view of the lake from most of the houses and hotels in Nainital. Boating over its quiet waters is also an experience of a lifetime. A kilometer and a half promenade called Mall Road gives a good run to the Naini Lake. Divided into two parts, Mall Road bustles with arrayed shops and hotels. It comes to life in the evenings when the tourists and locals decide to take a walk on it. The smell of corn and coffee and the crowd of assorted people make it one of the best places to see in Nainital. The two ends of the Mall Road are distinguished as Tallital (Tail of the Lake) and Mallital (Head of the Lake), where Tallital welcomes the new visitor with a wide angle view of the sparkling lake, surrounding mountains, colonial-era buildings and the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Mallital entertains the guests with multiple eating joints serving delicious Momos; hotels with lake view; Tibetan Market selling trendy clothes, Bada Bazaar that has a rich collection of locally manufactured candles; a playground in the form of ‘The Flats’ and a ropeway. The much revered Naina Devi Temple is also situated in Mallital on the lakeside. Running parallel to the Mall Road on the other side of the lake is semi-paved Thandi Sarak, which is dotted with few lakeside Hindu Temples as well.

Snow View Point that is accessible by a cable car is the place to get the spectacular view of the distant snow-clad Himalayan Range on a clear sky day. On the other hill away from Snow View is Tiffin Top, which is an ideal picnic spot amidst the moderately dense forest. The view of neighbouring hills from this place can actually melt the heart of the onlookers. The lofty China Peak is an aspiring trek for adventurists; the arduous trek upwards is rewarded by the surreal view of the mountains in China. A short distance away, Hanuman Garhi invites nature lovers as well the Hindu devotees to seek the blessing at the Hanuman Temple and then witness never before like view of the sunrise and sunset on the horizon. The far set up zoo boasting a rich variety of fauna is also an important place to visit in Nainital.
